MALAYSIAN BLUE FLYCATCHER: UNIQUE SINGER OF THE FOREST
BIODIVERSITY
The Malaysian blue flycatcher (Cyornis turcosus) is a small bird measuring around 13 cm in length, with predominately vivid-blue feathers. It has a soft, melodious chirp, but if threatened, will tweet a loud warning.
The Malaysian blue flycatcher is distributed along the Malay Peninsula and throughout Sumatra and Borneo. Our team members often see this bird in and around Camp Nles Mamse, as it is easy to spot near rivers at low altitudes.
We have seen the Malaysian blue flycatcher nesting around our camp, and nests filled with hatchlings and fledglings indicate it is successfully breeding in the area.
In addition to the Malaysian blue flycatcher, several other species of birds with signature chirps have been spotted and heard near camp. With so many different and unique sounds ringing out in the forest, it’s almost as though the birds are competing with each other to be the best singer of Kehje Sewen Forest!
Let's work together to save forests like Kehje Sewen and safeguard nature’s diverse ‘music’ makers.
