Orangutan releases are implemented by PT Restorasi Habitat Orangutan Indonesia (RHOI) for our orangutan releases in East Kalimantan.
PT RHOI is a company established by the BOS Foundation to legally purchase and manage forests under the Ecosystem Restoration Timber Forest Product Utilization License (IUPHHK-RE). This serves as a location for the release of orangutans and ecosystem restoration activities in East Kalimantan.
PT RHOI assists in organizing the release of rehabilitated orangutans from the Samboja Lestari Rehabilitation Center into the Kehje Sewen Forest Area. Currently, it has become a home for 130 rehabilitated orangutans released from 2012 to 2023.
Post-Release Monitoring
An overarching focus of our work in orangutan reintroduction programs is orangutan release. As one of the BOS Foundation's programs, RHOI helps provide natural habitat for rehabilitated orangutans from the Samboja Lestari Rehabilitation Center
Animal Reintroduction
Animal reintroduction is one of the conservation strategies involving the release or re-location of rehabilitated animals back to their native-habitats.
